Generate an understanding on the effects of Global
Warming
Recently I read an article in the India Today
International Edition, only 30% of the households use Gas as a
fuel, 50% of India uses Firewood and rest 20% uses other means. At
this rate the forests of India are going to disappear.
Some weeks back there was an incident of Leopards
straying into the urban areas around the Borivali National Park.
It’s not the Leopards but we humans are straying in their jungles
look at the rate at which the forests are being usurped by us
humans. Each Leopard needs a few sq. kms. as their domain now if
there are 33 Leopards (as reported)obviously they need a larger
hunting area. This is the same reason why the Tigers of India were
nearly extinct.
Solution:
The people of India are to be made aware of the
harmfulness of the disappearing forests -
1) Popularize Renewable sources of energy. Like
Solar energy, Gobar gas and other feasible means.
2) Awareness among the youth of the impact of
denuded forests.
I happened to watch the Discovery Eco-Challenge, it
is a hiking event wherein participants from various countries race
in the wilderness for the length of 100-200 miles over a period of
10 days. The participants are supposed to carry their garbage
(including their faeces) also to be disposed off at the next check
point.
A similar event can be arranged for the youth of
India on a smaller scale to generate awareness and participate
with nature. |
